My Personal Philosophy

The word philosophy originates from the ancient Greek word philosophia- meaning love of knowledge. I believe that your past should make you better, not bitter. My past has made me a much better person and there is no doubt that I have learned from my mistakes. I do not let my mistakes define me although they help shape who I am today. When I find myself making the wrong decision, I take a step back to reevaluate what impact this will make on my life in the future. I also observe the successes and failures of others and take note.  I live for myself and not to please others. I know what my goals are and I will not let anything get in the way of them. I do not believe that you must live in between the lines of religion. You do not have to follow a God's rules. You follow your own rules. Why? Because you know yourself better than anyone else and you're living your life. Living your life around a religion is just existing, not living. You are not taking risks or taking advantage of the many opportunities given every day. I live in the path with a destination to success and I set my mind to it. I have been through a lot of bad things in my life, and I reflect on these events. People say to forget the past because it hurts but they should know it will only make you stronger. Seeing the reality of your feelings helps you grow emotionally and choose your best way to heal and get past your bad past. You must find and learn your inner strengths to move forward in life and prevent more mistakes. Looking back on your past will make you remember not to repeat the same mistake and to learn from it- it will remind you of how strong you are to be able to get through it. Letting go is the next step. Leaving your past behind and moving on will make room for the better things in life. What made me a stronger person today is that I have a strong mindset to learn from everything I've ever experienced- good or bad. I’ve learned from my past mistakes and I am still learning to this day. Life is a never ending learning journey and everything happens for a reason. Your past most definitely shapes who you are but do not let it define you. Everyone should be able to resolve issues from our past before we can start letting them aiding us in being a better person. You cannot hate the world because bad things have happened to you. Reality is, they happen to everyone but you do not see everyone going around with a bad attitude towards everything. If you dwell on the mistakes of your past, you will never be prepared for what the future holds. Turn your life around by having a positive mindset that will make you a better person. Know your worth in this world and be a positive influence. You CAN change your past by setting up a bright future for yourself.

That lesson is taught best in the Disney movie “The Lion King.” There is a point in the movie when the young lion Simba is feeling sorry for himself for his past mistakes. The wise baboon Rafikitakes a stick  and hits Simba on the back of the head. Simba yells, “Geez, what was that for” and Rafiki replies, “It doesn’t matter, it’s in the past.” Simba says, “Yeah, but it still hurts.” Rafiki then says “Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or… learn from it.” Rafiki then swings the stick again to hit Simba on the head and Simba ducks down in time to avoid the stick. Rafiki says, “You see.”

  1. Your observations and beliefs are interesting. It felt a bit disconnected, though. You start talking about religion, and that doesn't really clearly connect with what you discuss before or after. Try and tighten it up a bit.

A bit of a paragraph blob. Break it up to help with flow and organization of information.

Would love your first sentence to connect a bit more clearly to the rest of this post.
